Rita’s Rainbows

Written by: Lauren Vukicevich

September 30th will mark Rita Marie Goehner’s birthday; she would be twenty-four this year. Rita was an active member in the San Luis Obispo community and dedicated much of her time to improving the lives of those around her. In an unfortunate car accident in 2006, she passed away at the early age of sixteen. In 2008, the Goehner family founded Rita’s Rainbows in memory and honor of Rita. Rita’s Rainbows is a non-profit organization that is focused on helping children and teenagers in need. Their goal is to carry on Rita’s legacy, and they have done a tremendous job.

Over the years, the Goehner family has had an overwhelming amount of support for this charity organization. Rita’s Rainbows has a long list of donors, both personal and corporate. Last week, the foundation put on a fundraiser at California Pizza Kitchen, where CPK offered to donate 20% of their proceeds to Rita’s Rainbows. These contributions just go to show how much the Goehner family, including Rita herself, have impacted the community.

From the women’s shelter program to parks & recreation classes, Rita’s Rainbows has impacted the lives of many children. Their donations have been a blessing to countless families throughout San Luis Obispo and beyond.

Rita’s Rainbows believes that while music education is a true necessity for our youth, many children are going without it. The charity has made generous donations to the Music Motive Music Scholarship Fund to be used for children who otherwise would not be able to afford music lessons. Because of Rita’s Rainbows they will be given the opportunity to learn an instrument!

Thanks you to the Goehner family and their many donors. We truly appreciate all that Rita’s Rainbows does for the children and teens in our community!
