Isaac Long: Prodigy Award Winner

In case you weren’t aware, Music Motive’s Music Enrichment Classes are about to begin in elementary schools across SLO County. For the last for eight weeks, I’ve been teaching the Play Guitar! class at Monarch Grove Elementary. It is there I met Isaac, the recipient of our class’ Music Motive Prodigy Award.

Isaac AwardIsaac stood out as an obvious choice for this award. I can personally attest to his musical drive and work ethic. He practiced every week, had a great attitude, and motivated other students in the process!

I thought I’d check in with this “award-winning guitar player,” to find out what he’s been up to and exactly what motivates him.

Who (or what) inspired you to learn the guitar?

My uncle Ty. He was a very fun uncle who played guitar in a lot of bands. Before he passed away, I wanted to try guitar. He got me my first one for Christmas one year.

Do you have any favorite songs that you’ve learned?

My favorite song to play is ‘Cortes the Killer’ by Neil Young.

What is the hardest part about learning the guitar?

Learning new chords!

What advice would you give to a friend who wants to learn guitar?

If you want to play guitar, play a lot so you get callouses so you don’t feel your fingers sliding.

We know you love music (since you won the Prodigy Award). Do you have any other hobbies?

Soccer, baseball, surfing, skate boarding, BMX racing, and mountain bike riding.

Thanks Isaac, keep up the good work!
